Regional museum ‘Limes im Hofgut’

Visit the Limes Information Centre of the Rheingau-Taunus district at Hofgut Georgenthal and discover the history of the Roman border that runs right past our doorstep. Our small museum takes you on a journey through the Lower Taunus region along the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Limes’. Illustrative maps, texts, pictures and original finds provide exciting insights into the Roman past – and into the special connection between our estate and Roman history.

History and heritage

The Taunus offers an impressive variety of historical treasures and cultural heritage, making it an ideal destination for excursions. Discover the Roman fort of Zugmantel, an important archaeological site and testament to Roman history, about an hour's walk from Hofgut Georgenthal. The ruins of Hohenstein Castle take you back to the Middle Ages, while the Roman tower at Idstein-Dasbach and the Roman fort at Saalburg offer a fascinating insight into the region's Roman heritage. Hofgut Georgenthal is idyllically nestled in the open countryside of the Taunus, yet it is only a stone's throw from cities worth visiting such as Wiesbaden and Mainz, or the metropolis of Frankfurt, which is about 50 minutes away by car.
